The Reed Problem

This is what the canal channel looks like halfway between the Clydach Aqueduct and the Clydach Lock. What we have here is, I believe, Sparganium erectumis, a listed noxious weed in the United States. It is also known as the branched burr reed.

Removing the reeds

As you can see it is choking this part of the canal. It needs more mechanical means of removal than we possess, though we do our best. We hope to have the help, very soon, of our partners, the Canal and River Trust, who have access to reed cutter boats, to eradicate it.
