The 2019 season of the Canoe and Kayak hire from Coed Gwilym Park ended today, Sunday 29th September. After the appalling rain overnight, the day turned out to be bright and cheery. There was the first sighting of a crocodile on the canal before the volunteers enjoyed a barbeque.
The season was particularly successful due, of course, to our magnificent volunteers who were joined by members of the local Sea Scouts. Regular sessions operated every Sunday from Easter to the end of September, plus Tuesdays in the school holidays. In addition, there were many evening sessions for local groups including young footballers, cub scouts and brownies. All the positive feedback received is appreciated greatly and confirms that everyone had a fabulous time on the water.
The Society is indebted to all the volunteers who truly put the “C” in community.

Mike and Ronnie made the 2019 canoe Hire season a really great season they both organised and worked extremely hard from Easter start right through until now , during this time they not only maintained but greatly increased community involvement from Scout,Brownie,Beaver and junior football teams.
All this requires a great deal of background effort and they cheerfully undertook this, their open friendly attitude has gained praise from where it matters in the community.
I hope that the canoe hire will go even further next season and we must appreciate that they deserve as much support as possible from the Society.
The money raised is most important to the society but value cannot be put on the wealth given to the community.

Your blog about “Canoe and Kayak Hire” is really fantastic. I went to Coed Gwilym Park along with my girlfriend and enjoyed it very much. Please inform me whether the new service is coming for the Coed Gwilym Park. Keep up the good posting, dear! Thanks.

Thank you so much for your kind words. The Society is so pleased that you enjoyed our blog and your visit to the park. Unfortunately, the Canoe and Kayak hire is currently suspended, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We would love to start the 2020 season but cannot do so for the time being, until the lock down is lifted. As you will understand, it would be impossible to run the hire programme whilst maintaining social distancing. We will get going as soon as possible but cannot predict when. Please keep an eye on the blog for further announcements.
