As previously announced, dredging is scheduled on the Swansea Canal between Bridge 3 (Coed Gwilym Park) and Trebanos Lower Lock (a distance of 1.4km). It is anticipated that dredging will commence in November. As a necessary precursor to the dredging, the fish in this section must be rescued. The rescue will need to extend 300m downstream of Bridge 3, to the abandoned, culverted lock.

The Canal and River Trust engaged MEM Fisheries to conduct the rescue. Work started today, Tuesday 29th October. The photographs show the team in action and some of the fish and lampreys that were caught. Everything was transferred to special tanks for transportation and release in the canal north of Pontardawe.

This is an exciting time for the Swansea Canal and we are grateful to CRT and the contractors. We look forward to the dredging.
