The gang assembled in Pontardawe and were soon hard at work clearing the canal and both banks between Herbert Street Bridge and the aqueduct. The weather started badly with a very sharp shower but thankfully it soon passed and the morning turned out to be dry and warm.

Here are a few photos of a muddy session – too many volunteers to mention individually but they all worked equally hard.

One volunteer that merits special mention is John Jones, who joins us occasionally. Armed only with a wood saw, he removed prodigious amounts of vegetation from the off-side wall and tugged it back to the basin before finishing off with an unusual, hands-on approach to the removal of weed from the cut.

Time for tea, cake and a chat.

It is amazing what can be achieved in a few hours by our wonderful volunteers.
