Today saw the gang back in Pontardawe. The weather was generally warm and sunny, but with one unfortunate exception – more of that later! Most work was either side of Herbert Street bridge but John G, Dave and Alan T were hard at it closer to Holly Street bridge.

Andrew, Paul and Pete worked downstream from Herbert Street to clear weed and barrow it down to the waste land beyond the aqueduct.

Upstream from the bridge, Kath took control of “Nellie” as Alan W and Bob hacked back the overhanging branches.

Meanwhile, huge amounts of weed were dragged out and piled up so the creepy-crawlies could creep back in. The piles will be removed next week.

John Owen Jones was once again hard at work with his trusty saw. He loaded up “Nellie” to take away the fruits of his labours.

Now for the weather report! Tea was taken in the tunnel due to an unexpected, severe cloudburst. Margaret’s gingerbread and Nick’s Welsh cakes were delicious and the rain was soon forgotten.

Today’s Nature Corner shows a beautiful damselfly.

The shower dampened us but not our spirits. The volunteers achieved so much despite the soaking at teatime. Back next week to remove the debris and continue with clearing the cut between the bridges.
