Mynydd Y Gwair Wind Farm Community Fund

The Society is delighted to announce that it has been successful in its application for a grant from the Mynydd Y Gwair Wind Farm Community Fund. We have received £29,417 towards Phase One of the construction of the Clydach Canal Centre. The Centre will provide a base for volunteer activities such as the Society’s innovative “Access For All” project, which provides specially adapted canoes. There will be a meeting room and display space for community use. The Society also plans to make the canal centre available for schools and groups involved in life long learning.

The derelict building on Hebron Road was recently purchased with help from Welsh Government property enhancement development funding administered by Swansea Council, with additional grants from Vale Europe Limited and Clydach Community Council.

Substantial renovation is required. Phase One of the refurbishment will start with the structural design, ground investigation, architectural design and schedule of works. Once detailed planning consent and building regulations approval are in place, contractors will commence work to make the building weather-tight and secure.

The images show the building in its present condition and an artist’s impression of how it will look once the refurbishment is complete.
