A glorious summer’s day saw over twenty volunteers on parade in Pontardawe. The main task was to clear vegetation from the cut between Herbert Street bridge and the aqueduct but first a splinter group of Andy and Sue cleared fallen branches blocking the towpath upstream from Bridge 7.

The hardest work was to clear vegetation. We were pleased to welcome Cilybebyll Community Councillor Joanne Todd, who took the time to chat to the volunteers and thank them for their hard work. Two of the volunteers were Pontardawe Town Councillor John Owen Jones and our chairman, Swansea City Councillor Gordon Walker. It is most rewarding to see see these elected representatives working so hard for the community.

Here are just a few photos of the volunteers in action. “Nellie” was used both to access the weeds and to transport them to the bank.

Time for tea and a chat. Cakes this week were provided by Gill.

And finally, some close-ups of some of our wonderful volunteers, in various states of muddiness!

Another grand day’s work in the warm sun. Well done everyone.
