SCS members Gill and Gareth T, Ronnie F, John and Chris Grav and Sue E visited our friends at Whitethorns Intensive Day Service on “Children In Need” day of course! They enjoyed a cuppa and cake with our partners and their clients. Staff and service users got into the spirit by wearing pyjamas, onesies, and Pudsey ears, showing their support for the Children in Need appeal.

What they didn’t expect was Gill presenting them with a replica of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service trophy. SCS received this prestigious award in 2020 for ‘regenerating the Swansea canal as a community asset for active recreation, and as a heritage visitor destination’. We wanted to recognise the contribution that Whitethorns had made towards us gaining this award, in helping to clear litter from the towpath and surrounding areas. Whitethorns Paul Howard received the trophy on their behalf.

Whitethorns manager Lee sent us the following comments. “Please accept my sincerest thanks on behalf of the team, the service users and of course myself. We were genuinely touched by your generosity and your support of our Children in Need tea party. The Swansea Canal Society is everything that we could hope for as a friend to our service.” We look forward to seeing our friends out and about along the canal as weather and circumstances allow.
