25,000 Hours Silver Plaque Award.

img_20160906_134457808-2img_20160906_141104173Well, I can’t say much for my photography this week, I fear. But these shots are at least a visual reminder of the tremendous compliment that was paid to the SCS by the Canal And River Trust at a presentation in the Pontardawe Arts Centre on the 6th of September. To commemorate our reaching the massive total of 25,000 hours of voluntary work for the Swansea Canal in the space of  just over three years, we were awarded a silver plaque, and, as the right hand photo indicates, a show-stopping chocolate cake. As you can see from Gordon’s expressions the thought of tucking into the chocolate cake seems to have got him the more animated. In the left hand photo, our chairman is seen with David Hagg,  chair of the South Wales & Severn waterway partnership,  who  is presenting Gordon with the plaque. We gave a short talk to all the members of the Partnership and the Canal and River Trust members present about the work the SCS has done in the last three years and how, together with both  the CRT and the SWSWP, we can improve the environment and fabric of the canal in the future.

Only thirteen members of the society could attend the presentation and lunch but the honour belongs to all our members who work so hard to make this society, in the words of Nick Worthington, the South Wales and Severn Waterways Manager,an ‘exemplar for all other canal societies’.

We thank the Canal and River Trust for giving us this wonderful show of appreciation.
