The Swansea Welsh Church Act Trust Fund is open to

all voluntary, charitable or benevolent groups based in the

Swansea area, and awards grants to successful applicants

up to a maximum of £5,000.

We are very pleased to anounce that the Society has been awarded £2,000 by the fund. This money will be put towards our ongoing work on and around the buried lock in the Old Highways Depot in Pontardawe Road, Clydach (pictured above as it was in the 1950s).

Upper cill 2    The picture on the left shows that the water still flows through it and that spiders can still spin webs in it! We need to clear the debris from around the lock, and have full costings, plans and a time line on how to uncover it. With the support of the Canal and River Trust and local contractors we hope then to restore it as part of the long  term vision to bring back the whole 120 metres of canal through the depot site. This grant means that we can continue to fund some of this work immediately.

We are grateful not only to the Swansea Welsh Church Act Trust Fund for this grant but also to the City and County of Swansea who act as administrators for the fund.

Pictures below show some of the work done so far in the yard.
