SOUTH WALES WATERWAYS ON SHOW AT THE WATERFRONT MUSEUM 24.2.18

The Inland Waterways Association invited all the South Wales Waterway charities and organisations to take part in an exhibition at the Waterfront Museum in Swansea last Saturday, the 24th of February. It was an opportunity for them all to publicise the benefits of the canals and waterways as well as the valuable work the charities do. The Swansea Canal Society, the Neath and Tennant Canals Trust and the Canal and River Trust all had stalls there.  Nick Worthington, the CRT Waterways manager, took these photos of the day.

1. Clive Reed, Heritage Consultant for the Swansea Canal Society, gives an illustrated talk on the historical importance of the Swansea Canal. Models of the Clydach (Mond Lock), the ‘buried lock’ near St. Benedict’s Church. Clydach , a Swansea barge, and the lengthsman’s hut at Ynysmeudwy Lower Lock, all made by Michelle Davidson,  can be seen on the tables behind him.

2. David Morgan, Development and Engagement Officer at CRT, mans the Glandwr Cymru stall. Glandwr Cymru, which is the Canal and River Trust in Wales, produces many excellent trail maps of the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal. These can be seen on their stall in the photo as well as leaflets for the Brec and Mon Lime Kiln Trail. We are working closely with Glandwr Cymru, who own much of the Swansea Canal in water, to maintain and restore it.
