THE WEEK AHEAD: JULY 11TH TO JULY 17TH 2016
Tuesday 12th July: Work party meets at Brownsters Cafe, High Street, Clydach between 8.00am and 9.00am. We have three events to manage today:
1. Ammanford Ramblers will be arriving at 10.30am for a canoe on the canal followed by a lunch provided by the wonderful caterers of the Swansea Canal Society.
2. While this is in motion, and if there is time and enough manpower, we will continue to clear the ever growing clumps of reeds in the canal south of the Clydach Lock. Work will cease at coffee time at 11.00am.
3. At twelve noon we will be meeting John Evans at Clydach Lock. John is the engineer who buried the 100 yards of canal and one lock which is beneath the now deserted Highways Depot in Pontardawe Road. He is coming from Hay-on-Wye to talk about the means of uncovering the lock as a first step in restoring the canal there. We will be taking John and our Heritage Consultant, Clive Reed, and his wife Lynne, for a meal at Brownsters afterwards.
Sunday, July 17th: Canoes for hire at the Canoe Store, Coed Gwilym Park, Clydach. First hire at 11.00am. Last hire at 2.30pm. 3 seater Canadian canoes £7, kayaks £5 (doubles) and £4 (singles). A one mile section of the canal is open to the canoes and kayaks. Full terms and conditions are on our website under ‘Canoe Hire’.
