THE WEEK AHEAD WELCOMES THE WATERWAY RECOVERY GROUP: 5.8.18 TO 11.8.18
Swansea Canal welcomes volunteers from all over the UK and Europe this week. They are part of the Waterway Recovery Group Summer Camp who will be staying at the Ynyscedwyn Scout Hut from Saturday night, the 4th of August to the morning of Saturday the 11 th of August. Their team leader is Ian Gaston who is from Northern Ireland and we are delighted to welcome him back as he was a member of last years camp. Our own Michelle Davidson will be learning the leadership ropes from him as she has completed her weekend WRG Leaders training course and now needs to put those skills to practical use.
The group’s work programme for the week is as follows:-
Sunday 5th and Monday 6th: Clearance of vegetation at Upper Ynysmeudwy Lock prior to carrying out repairs to the by-wash. The water has been diverted from the by-wash throught the lock chamber.
Tuesday 7th August: The group will be working at Upper Trebanos Lock where they did such sterling work last year. We will be sharing a buffet lunch with them at 1.00pm.
Wednesday 8th August to Friday 10th August: The Volunteers return to the Upper Ynysmeudwy Lock where work will continue on the vegetation clearance and the by-wash.
We will also be opening the Canoe Store at Coed Gwilym Park for canoe and kayak hire this week on:-
Sunday the 5th of August. First Hire at 10.30am and last hire at 2.30pm and
Tuesday the 7th August: First hire 10.00am, last hire 12.00pm. We are unable to open longer today as we are also providing a lunch for the volunteers of the Waterway Recovery Group at Trebanos Lock.
