We continued our work between the two locks at Ynysmeudwy. Last year the Aquaclear weed cutter could not get access to this short stretch so the reeds and grass has taken over. We used the drag forks, drag hoes, Gordon’s own rope handled rake, and Tomas’s and Oliver’s enthusiasm to make some inroads into it. Sue and Andy cleared the bank ahead of us so that we had somewhere to stand on the off side to pull in the silt and vegetation as we worked out way down the canal. John did his customary excellent work collecting plastic and litter.

Meanwhile, Jo dealt with the heavily silted area around the bridge and the lengthsman’s hut.

Tomas and Oliver befriended Anna, Sue and Andy’s young dog, whilst sorting out the cold drinks and biscuits.

We were again also joined by our friends from Whitehorns Day Care Centre.

The two photos above show the difference that we made to the width of the canal at the end of the day. There is still much work to be done there.
