Work Party 19.8.14
These two pictures show you how far we have widened the channel at the entrance to the Lower Lock in a few months. The first shows us working there in May and the second how we left it yesterday.
Directly opposite, on the off-side, Rhodri was laying a level stone base for us to start building yet another wall to set off the lovely by-wash cascade. Thanks to a delivery of stone, cement and lime from Govilon Wharf which arrived as we were working we now have sufficient materials to carry on Rhodri’s initial work.

Further up the canal, Peter, Alan and Emyr continued to repair the tow path edge using our new cement mixer for the lime mortar. The finished stone edge looks pretty straight in this picture.

Our friends from the Whitethorns Day Car Centre were a great help today as they ventured up to the infamous breeding ground of used beer cans next to the canal terminus. Using a large fibre glass landing net they collected two bagfuls of mixed brewery detritus from the murky depths. It is amazing how many fish thrive there on a diet of watered down Fosters.
