Work Party: Tuesday 22nd August 2023
The volunteers were in and around the Buried Lock site and at Coed Gwilym Park this week. The weather was pleasantly warm and mercifully rain free. The first task was to lay more blocks along the dividing wall between the dry dock and the yet to be exposed new route for the canal. Duncan manoeuvred the blocks for Alan T and Andrew to set in place. |
Duncan moved on to help Gordon line the entrance to the by-wash. Much time and ingenuity was spent providing a source of water, including heaving a bowser into place and pumping water up to it from a sump in the dry dock. |
Chris and Sharon, ably assisted by JOhn who supplied the stones, finished off laying the edge wall alongside the new garden. Doesn’t it look lovely? |
Upstream, Alan W, Sue and Andy used one of the motorised barrows to shift piles of weed to the compost heap ready to be used in the garden. |
Alan W then moved further upstream to help Colin pull out even more weed! |
Tea was taken in the warmth of the sun. This week’s baker was Margaret. Her lemon curd tarts were to die for! |
All through the morning in Coed Gwilym Park, we hosted a group of vulnerable adults for a session in the canoes and kayaks. They asked us to respect their privacy by not taking photos but they all agreed they had a marvellous paddle. Another very successful day, bot in and around the Buried Lock site and on the water in Coed Gwilym Park. |
