Work Party – Tuesday 23rd May 2023
Another lovely day and another excellent turn-out of volunteers! And another two-pronged attack!! In Coed Gwilym park, Bob worked on repairing the bow of our newest boat, Chris Grav – joined later by David G – tended to the garden and Sue cleaned the barriers in readiness for “Party In The Park” next Sunday. |
In the Hidden Lock site, work got underway after a couple of top-level meetings. |
Dai cleared up some scrap wood that had been bugging him for a few weeks – it’s so important to have a clear run to the loo once you reach a certain age! |
Alan W, much recovered after his dose of COVID – and Chris B gathered stones that the usual suspects added expertly to the by-wash wall. |
Andrew beavered away with his steps. |
Alan W and Dai added plants to the green corridor. You can see by the expression on Dai’s face that Martin may not have signed the correct paperwork in full. |
John Gw and Aled completed erecting the replacement mirrors and signage. This important task will help to ensure safe crossing of the tow-path. |
Gordon appears to be banging his head against a wall but is, in fact, making a structure to hold the stop-planks that will be used to hold back water from the dry dock. |
Tea was taken with cakes baked by Ronnie. |
After tea, all these tasks continued and Aled wetted the wall along the dry-dock laid by James Daley’s stonemason. This was to prevent the mortar from drying too quickly. The wall looks sensational. |
And finally, say hello to the canal’s newest residents – Can and Ada Goose. They may have been offering Gordon advice as he is setting off tomorrow to visit his daughter across the pond. |
Such a successful day, with the volunteers working at the top of their game. |
