Work Party: Tuesday 31st January 2023
Another lovely day, cool but sunny, saw the volunteers once again assemble in Coed Gwilym Park before separating into two halves, as last week. One group set off for the canal above the Buried Lock site in order to remove overhanging branches. Gordon crossed the cut in “Nellie” and did a great job cutting the willow, mostly by hand as his chainsaw conked out after a few minutes’ use. The branches were hauled across, cut into manageable pieces and stacked carefully. Next week, the brash will be taken up to Coed Gwilym Park. |
Alan T, Andy and Pete transported weed that had been pulled out last week up to Coed Gwilym Park where it is being used to fertilise the new flower beds. |
In the park, our tools were cleaned and given a lick of paint. Please note the official society colour! Gareth and Gill gave a coat of Hammerite to a section of railing. These railings were removed when the towpath diversion was laid and will be reused when the original route is closed. It was lovely to see Gareth back in harness after so long on sick parade. |
Martin added a few more plants to the new garden, that is already looking a picture. |
Time for tea, with cakes baked by Ronnie. Once again, Whitethorns joined us for a chat. Something seems to have spooked John G. Is he worried that Chris might have a rival for “Baker of the month”? |
And finally, the banner to celebrate “225 in 2023” was unveiled as it was passed from Sue to Ronnie. A few more additions to be made but already it is looking beyond wonderful. |
Two very different sorts of job today, but both very productive and much needed. Well done everyone. |
