Work Party 18.10.16

20161018_094807        We took the very first step in restoring the towpath

along the route of the buried canal in the Old Highways

Depot today. Years of weeds and moss growing on top

of the existing towpath were removed so that a fresh

layer of tarmac can be added to the old one. The path here

will be 2.5 metres wide as we are constrained by the perimeter wall but further south we can increase the width to 3 metres. This will aid the use of the path as a joint walking and Sustrans cycle route.

Of course, the constuction of the path depends on further funding. We will be applying for a grant in a very short time. If you would like to support this application please sign the petition at the following link:-

Please sign our petition to restore the towpath in the Highways Depot, Pontardawe Road, Clydach. Details of the petition are on this link :

The  towpath restoration is a first stage in in renovating the buried lock and the whole 100 yards of canal through the yard. We will be back in the yard on the 25th October to finish the moss clearance.
