Work Party: Tuesday 30th May 2023

Today was blisteringly hot so the volunteers took it relatively easy and more-or-less repeated the activities of last week.

In Coed Gwilym Park, Bob carried on with fettling our large boat – here he appears to be giving it a severe beating – and Chris & Moira watered the plants before returning to the Buried Lock site.

John AD, Martin and Alan W, later joined by Moira, tended to the foxgloves. All the plants were generously donated by John. We hope they will get enough watering to survive the current heatwave.

John Grav trimmed back from the near bank of the by-wash the excess butyl rubber and fleece liner.

Sue followed on sweeping the dust, stones and dirt from the bottom of the by-wash.

Andy moved the stones that had been piled so meticulously at the head of the by-wash back down to the middle. Here he can just be discerned giving his interpretation of a broken reed. Art emulating life.

Mike mixed the mix so that everyone other than the gardeners could have a go at laying more stones. Maybe halfway down the off-side with the near-side yet to be started.

Tea was taken with cakes provided by Gill “The Co-Op” T. It is to be hoped that the owner of the wellies managed to unwind their legs.

On his way home, Martin checked on progress at the Swansea Canal Centre. The trusses are in place and the roof tiles expected to arrive shortly.

Well done everyone for working so hard in the extreme heat.
