Work Party: Sunday 28th January 2024

There was a change of plan from the scheduled tasks for this Sunday. Work at the Coed Gwilym canoe store in preparation for the hire season starting at Easter, was put on hold as the sun shone upon our small group of volunteers.

With excavation work now moving apace at the Buried Lock site, the team began lining the second side of the new by-wash with a stone facing. The channel will be needed soon as the water flow is rerouted from the old culvert, so now is the time to do it.

Alan was on mortar mixing duty whilst Mike and Steve laid the stones, which have been recycled from the excavated spoil. Its hard on the knees, as both chaps testified, but a good stretch was completed before the skies darkened around lunchtime.

Several coffee breaks gave time for a chat and a rest for the arms (and knees) and it was a warm and worthwhile morning. We will be back on site this coming Tuesday with a larger group to continue the job, weather permitting.
