This week, the volunteers returned to the Swansea Canal Centre to continue to create the community garden. The weather was cool and almost rain free. Martin, Christina and Moira tidied the existing gardens.

Bob and Aled made two frames to be used later when laying bases for tables and benches.

The very hard labour was to flatten the remains of the grassy knoll. Copious quantities of rubble had to be picked out. Gordon used our trailer to make several trips to dispose of it. The good soil was barrowed away to add to the new garden.

An area of turf was removed to accommodate one of the bases.

Once the knoll was cleared sufficiently, a frame was set out ready for the other base.

Tea was taken in the shelter of the workshop, with three cakes baked by Andy.

Work on the community garden continued after tea and Lance took these photos of what we achieved.

Clearing the grassy knoll was back-breaking work but we really achieved a great deal. We hope that the hard landscaping for the community garden will be completed over the next two Tuesdays.
