Work Party: Tuesday 13th October 2026

Today the volunteers assembled in Coed Gwilym Park to enjoy the autumn sun and tackle a couple of tasks. Jean, Moira, Dianne and Gary tidied the gardens and surrounding areas. Having been neglected for a few weeks, they were badly in need of attention and now look so much better.

Kev cleaned a trailer that had proved to be surplus to our requirements. We hope to sell it to someone who can put it to good use.

Everyone else worked on preparations for a concrete base to take a new storage shed for the canoes and kayaks. Shuttering was cut and measured before being leveled and pegged down securely. Waste hardcore was used to help fill the void and a tamping bar was made. The premix concrete will arrive next Tuesday.

Tea was taken with delicious cakes made by Dianne, making her debut as a very welcome addition to the catering team.

After tea, Alan cut up railings that will be recycled as marker posts, etc., Dave worked a little more on the base and the gardeners completed their labours.

Everyone else went to the Buried Lock site. They transported 100 very heavy blocks from the car park to the lock, where they will be used to line the far side of the dividing wall. Less elegant than the stonework on the front but much quicker to install.

And finally, we hauled our large work-boat up the slipway where it can drain out.

Another busy day. We can hardly wait for the concrete pour next week! But most of all, congratulations to our new baker.
