Work Party: Tuesday 15th September 2026

The constant rain of the last three days stopped at last so the volunteers had very pleasant weather for today’s adventures. We split into two groups again, with the first pulling weed from the canal between the Mond and Buried locks and the second remaining at the Canal Centre.

Andy welcomed young learners from Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Gellionnen. They were fascinated by the map of the canal and were able to find the Canal Centre and their school. One of the teachers thought that the youngsters had rarely seen maps, being of the sat-nav generation. They also loved the “By-yere” tapestry and the photo of a horse pulling a barge. And best of all, our volunteer Kev used to be their headmaster so knew the kids well!

Alan, David and Kev attached a new sign to the front of the building. It looks very smart.

The gardening team of Aled, Christina, Jean and Martin worked their magic, as usual, despite Mike’s attempts to distract them!

After fixing the sign, the gang removed the stretch of wall that was accidentally knocked over last week.

Tea was taken with scrumptious treats both savoury and sweet baked by Christina.

After tea, gardening and wall repair continued. James and John baled out the trip boat, a task that has been sadly neglected in Bob’s absence.

Gordon, James and Tom returned to weed pulling, with Andy sweeping up behind them.

And finally, who’s this little fellow that was spotted trying to cross a concrete path at the Canal Centre?

That’s it for another week. Well done everyone.
