Work Parties: 14.11.17. 1. CLYDACH LOCK.

We were over and under the scaffolding today at Clydach Lock. Clearing leaves (an endless chore, ‘above ground’) and underneath repointing the lock chamber walls.

We are happy to welcome 2 new recruits to our Tuesday Work Party (seen on the right collecting those leaves). Veronica (Ronnie, for short) and Mike have recently moved to the area from Gosport where Mike has just recently retired from the Royal Navy. They will be valuable addition to our numbers. Welcome to Swansea.

While in the bowels of the lock I took a photo of what it might look like in years to come from the viewpoint of a boat leaving the restored lock heading south to Swansea.   We can but dream.

Down below on the lower sage of the scaffold we used lime mortar to repoint, where necessary, the lower courses of stone on both sides of the lock wall.20171114_093744                                       And this is what the finished article looked like above the gloom.
