Work Party: Tuesday 27th October 2026
|
Today the volunteers worked in and around Coed Gwilym Park. The weather was unseasonably warm but interspersed by a few sharp showers. We welcomed Steve Todd, a long-standing member of SCS, and two of his colleagues from CGI. They were here as part of the company’s volunteering day release scheme. In the park, Christina and Jean tended to the gardens. Sorry ladies, no photos other than one of Chris’s derriere – modesty forbids! The main work was to complete laying the base for the new canoe store, that was done by teatime. |

A satellite group cleared the piles of weed and dragged out a bit more upstream from the Mond lock. Again we were done in time for tea. The channel between the locks is now reasonably clear. |

That was pretty much it for the day. The last task was to concrete the gap between the slab and the tarmac before covering the whole thing with a film of polythene to keep the rain off. |

And finally, do you think Tom’s aboriginal incantations helped to cure the concrete? Answers by didgeridoo, please. |
