Work Party: Tuesday 9th June 2026

Today’s gathering offered a range of tasks for our volunteers – there was something for every taste at the Swansea Canal Centre!

On the gardening front Moira, Diane and Sharon tackled the weedy community garden borders and new volunteer Tom strimmed undergrowth behind the boat basin, under Lance’s watchful eye. Chris mowed the knee-high grass around the stone barge whilst Gordon strimmed the forest of weeds on the canal-side walkway and bashed some Balsam, aided by Phil and Aled who cleared up the mess. Their combined efforts really transformed the whole area!

On the maintenance front, James cleared the gutters around the building (that weren’t as blocked as we expected) and John Gw completed repairs he’d been making to the big boat trailer. Chris and Lance dismantled the canoe rack which was taking up much space alongside the new bench area, and stowed it away.

On the construction front, Alan and Kevin installed railings to protect the hot water tank and solar battery in the workshop from damage from wayward trailers and other equipment.

On the all-important catering front, Jan W supplied a great range of tasty cakes, more than we could eat, which we enjoyed on the sunny patio and new seating areas.

So a busy but pleasant morning yielded great result across the board and we all appreciated the sun on our backs after recent weeks!
