Clydach Lock Work Party; 26.9.17.
The relaying and cementing of the coping stones began today. Rhodri from the Canal And River Trust could only start as soon as the lime mortar mix arrived by tractor and trailer. Cementing work was also underway at the Old Highways Depot fifty yards up the canal so a shuttle service with Gareth at the wheel brought the necessary mix down to us.
By close of play we had completed about half the necessary cementing with all the sleepers in that half now in their exact position ready for bolts to be drilled into them and the supporting timbers.
The second half will not be so easy as we have missing coping stones at that end and their replacements will need some cutting and paring down to fit the gaps.
