Gellionnen School Work Party: Friday 19th July 2024
The Society was pleased to answer a call for assistance from one of our local schools this week. Gellionnen School governor Noleen Williams has big plans to improve the school gardens and playgrounds over the summer break, but needed extra hands to do it! Arranged through our chairman and local councillor Gordon Walker, volunteers Mike F and Alan T spent Friday morning with Noleen cleaning and repainting picket fencing around the front play area. The old wood was all looking a bit grubby and tatty, with the paint faded and peeling. But three hours of hard graft in the warm sun transformed the two fence lines! Using the same red, blue, green and yellow colours, we rubbed off the worst of the dirt and flakes and slapped on the new coats. The change was remarkable! |

There’s at least the same amount of fencing still to do and we plan to return over coming weeks to see what progress we can make. Noleen is also creating a lovely sensory garden, which needs some construction work first. Hopefully we can sort that out, then let our society gardeners loose to bring the area to life! Mike and Alan had an enjoyable time, and Noleen was truly grateful. We’ll be keeping in touch and planning more away days at Gellionnen school before the kids come back. |
