Spring 2015

Newsletter – Spring 2015
Welcome to our Winter Newsletter, which we hope will give you a synopsis of the work that we are involved in and what we hope to achieve. New members and volunteers are always welcome to join us.
More photos, further details, reports and events are on our website.
WORK PARTIES

The work party continues to meet on a Tuesday and we have welcomed several new volunteers. We have been working on managing the vegetation on the banks of the canal in Clydach and Pontardawe and will continue with working on Trebanos Lock in the next few months. Our friends from Whitethorns Day Centre continue to join us.
Three volunteers attended the Glandwr Cymru Annual Public Meeting in the Senedd and were informed that our volunteers put in 11,000 hours in the last year, a financial equivalent of £77,000.
Piped Sections

Clydach
We have been in meetings with Swansea Council regarding the opening up of the piped section of the canal in Clydach.
Trebanos
We are also hoping that Neath Port Talbot Council will protect the route of the piped section in Trebanos to enable us to open that section of the canal at some time in the near future.
Local Development Plans
We are in negotiation with Swansea City Council and the Canal and River Trust, hoping to get a corridor of land protected under the LDP to enable the canal to be opened up from Clydach to Swansea and eventually joining in with the Neath Port Tennant Canals.

Canoe Hire

Our Canoe Hire Project starts again on Sunday 5th April. We have several new and qualified volunteers to help us run it. We are having a training day With Simon Fenton of Gower Adventures for all the volunteers to make sure our skills and safety procedures are up to scratch.
Heritage Trail

WE are working with Neath Port Talbot Council to try to secure a Heritage Trail from Godre’r Graig to Ystalyfera with information panels showing the history and heritage of the canal in that area.
