Swansea Canal Centre Open Day – Saturday 2nd November 2024

Swansea Canal Centre Open Day – Saturday 2nd November 2024

Following on from the official opening of the centre, we hosted an open day so that everyone had the chance to visit the centre. The day was busy with friends and volunteers dropping in to see what has been achieved.

The first photo is very special as it shows our treasurer talking to John Hutchings’ children. John had worked for British Waterways on the Swansea canal from the 1950’s to 1994 and finished as Chief Engineer. We also welcomed a couple from Llantwit Major. They are members of the Inland Waterways Association and have a boat on the Mon and Brec canal. Another visitor kindly gave us several photos taken at the site when the canal was still in water and the building was open as a builders’ merchant.

A very successful day with many complimentary comments about our wonderful new centre.

We are indebted to our funders, without whom none of this would have been possible.
