THE CO-OP LOCAL COMMUNITY FUND: SUPPORTING OUR CANOE PROJECT
The Swansea Canal Society is very honoured to have been chosen as one of two local charities in the Clydach area to take part in the Co-op initiative that allows Co-op shoppers to donate 1% of their purchases of Co-op branded goods to good causes. We will be recipients of this scheme up to September 2017. We will also receive a percentage of the cost of carrier bags bought in Co-op shops (‘the carrier bag levy’).
Below are the full details of how Co-op shoppers can participate.

Volunteers from the Society have been running a successful Canoe Hire facility in Coed Gwilym Park, Clydach each Sunday since April 2014. This year, the facility was also made available on Tuesdays in the summer school holidays. The canoes currently navigate between Clydach and Trebanos locks. We now wish to offer canoeing on the northern section of the in-water canal, from Pontardawe to Ynysmeudwy. To do so, we require a trailer to transport the canoes and kayaks from the store in Coed Gwilym Park, Clydach to Pontardawe and beyond. The canoeing facility already benefits all members of the community, both young and old. No previous experience is needed. Full safety equipment is provided and when necessary pairs of canoes can be secured together to provide a very stable platform.
Do you shop at the Co-op? Would you like to support the Society in the purchase of a trailer at absolutely no cost to yourself? The Co-op donates 1% of customer spend on Co-op branded products to local good causes. If you would like this to go to us then all you need to do is visit https://membership.coop.co.uk/ causes/5840/ Then sign in if you already have a Co-op online account or click Join us to create a new one. Click on the picture of canoes on the canal and accept that you want to back us. If you want to help promote us further, you can share that you are supporting us on your personal Facebook and Twitter.
Already we have raised over £500 pounds. With your support, we will soon reach our target and be able to extend our canoeing activities to our friends and supporters in Pontardawe and beyond.
