Dr Morgan (in the centre of the above photo), who worked for many years as the Medical Officer on the Vale Inco site in Clydach, and his wife prepare to be taken on the canal to celebrate the Power of Water Event on September the sixth. This event, jointly hosted by the Friends of Clydach Heritage Centre and the Swansea Canal Society was part of  the prestigious British Science Festival which came to Swansea for the first time this week.   The Power of Water was displayed both inside the Clydach Heritage Centre where a model of  Clydach Lock was on display to show how boats travelled up and down hill, and on the water itself where canoe rides set off  up the canal with local guides to explain how the canal operated.

"A moody and misty start to the day at the Whistling Bridge"
"Into the Trebanos lock chamber"

In the afternoon we were joined by members of the Canal and River Trust and the South Wales and Severn Waterways Partnership  who all took to the water to see the improvements that the SCS has made to the Lower Trebanos Lock and to see the possibilities of  producing hydro electic power from the unending rush of water through the lock’s side stream. Lower Trebanos Lock is pictured above and below. The above two photos are courtesy of the Friends of Clydach Heritage Centre.
