THE WEEK AHEAD: 11TH APRIL TO 17TH APRIL.
12th April Tuesday: Work party meets at Brownsters cafe, High Street, Clydach between 8.00 and 9.00am. Or meet on site at Coed Gwilym Park Canoe Store at 9.30pm. We will be putting poles into the silt at regular intervals on the off-side of the canal 100 yards north of the Park. We will then link them up with a porous membrane and put silt dug out of the canal channel behind this bank defence.
We will be filmed and Hywel, our Welsh speaker, will be interviewed, for Roy Noble’s series of programmes on S4C. This is entitled “Cymoedd Roy” on various valleys of South Wales – one being Swansea Valley. The main focus of this feature will be on the history of the canal and the current condition of the six miles in water. Filming starts at 2.00pm so we will be working up to about 2.30 on site.
A second work party will go to Pontardawe to clear the litter and debris in the canal behind the railings at ‘Mama Mias’ and north of Herbert Street bridge.
Sunday 17th April: Canoe Hire at Coed Gwilym Park, 11.00am to 3.15pm (last hire at 2.30pm). Canadian open canoes, £7.00, double kayaks £5, single kayaks £4. Full terms and conditions are on the website under ‘Canoe Hire’.
