THE WEEK AHEAD: 21ST JANUARY TO 27TH JANUARY 2018
SUNDAY 21ST JAN: The Pontardawe to Ynysmeudwy Sunday Work Party will be working by the Herbert Street Bridge in Pontardawe today. The railings round the canal between the subway and Herbert Street bridge are in need of a good lick of paint. The Work Party will rub them down in preparation for painting. Meet at Herbert Street bridge at 10.00am. Everybody will be made welcome. Gloves, materials and hi-vis vests are provided. Refreshments too! Finish at approx 2.00pm.
TUESDAY 23RD JANUARY: OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE NEW TOWPATH THROUGH THE OLD HIGHWAYS DEPOT, CLYDACH.
The ribbon will be cut by Cllr. Robert Stewart, Leader of the Swansea cabinet and two young people from Whitethorns Day Care Centre, Morriston at 11.00am. We will be joined by representatives of the Canal and River Trust, Sustrans, and the City and County of Swansea who have greatly assisted us in the building of the path. The 120 metre path will be part of Sustrans National Route 43 (Swansea to Builth Wells) and is the first step in transforming this part of the depot site into a canal, wildlife and boat-based leisure park. There will be an exhibition of what has been done and what is to come in future, in the marquee on the site. Walkers, cyclists, dogs and passers-by will take a first trip along the path once the ribbon is cut and a buffet lunch will follow. Make a date in your diary this Tuesday and come and join us.
