The Week Ahead: 4.7.14 to 10.7.14,
1.) Gill has now collated the June work returns for all our volunteers and the grand total of hours worked on the canal plus all the hours spent in meetings, updating the website, researching, on fund raising, writing and answering e-mails, on the phone, etc, etc, totals 853.
Based on a rate of £7 per hour this equates to a Donation in Kind towards the improvement of the Swansea Canal of £5,791. Thank you to all our hard working members.
2.) Friday 4th July: National Moth Night 2014: Bats & Moths of Swansea Canal, 8pm, Clydach Heritage Centre, Coed Gwilym Park. Rhiannon Bevan of the South West Wales Wildlife Trust will once again be leading a talk and walk up the Canal towards Trebanos Locks. Remember, on the last walk we discovered a fourth species of bat on the canal. Can we make it five this week.
3.) Sunday, July 6th: Canoes and Kayaks for hire from the slipway at Coed Gwilym Park, Clydach. 11.00am to 3.00pm. All details are given elsewhere on the website. Volunteers manning the station meet at 10.00am to set up. Although we have the required five this Sunday all extra hands are welcome.
If you can help out on the canoes on the 13th July do let us know. Our resources are stretched as SCS members will also be helping the Waterways Recovery Group at Trebanos Locks.
4.) Tuesday 8th July; Work Party. Rhodri will be donning his rubber one-piece dry suit to get the weeds out of the canal between Herbert Street, Pontardawe and Holly Street Bridge. We will assist with the raking and disposal. Also we will be clearing the off side vegetation as well as the inevitable litter. Meet either at Brownsters Cafe High Street, Clydach between 8.15 and 9.00 or at the work site (Mamas and Papas Car Park) at 9.30.
