Work Party: Sunday 19th February 2023
A slightly smaller than usual group of our colleagues met at Coed Gwilym Park to work up an appetite for their Sunday dinners! Several tasks were on the cards: Our canoe hire season begins at Easter and preparations and maintenance are taking place at the canoe store. Alan T checked the roller shutter door, which has become increasingly difficult to lift. He and John Grav rigged up a temporary counterweight to help raise and support the door and with a few squirts of oil here, and some smears of grease there, the door was running just a little more easily. With repeated use in coming days to work the lubrication in, the door should become lighter and safer to operate once again. |

Alan also made several changes to the lighting in the store. Better illumination on dull days, or during evening canoe hire sessions, will help improve operations and safety for the duty hire team. |

Outside, work continued on the new section of walling which was started last Tuesday. John and Gareth mixed a pile of mortar and began laying a second stone course behind the front facade, to create a wider wall which will both border the garden and form a seating area when capping is eventually added. |
|
Gill kept busy barrowing an accumulation of earth and leaves from the top of the steps next to the bridge on Pontardawe Road. These loads were added to the border as in-fill, where they should rot down nicely. |
|
Gordon arrived at coffee time, but was too busy to join us for a brew. We were soon back to work anyway as the warm sun shone. It was a good day to be outside and get some important work done. |
