Work Party: Tuesday 10th January 2023

This Tuesday dawned very wet yet again, with the inevitable impact on our planned work party activities. Everything we were scheduled to do was outside, but there was little point in starting given the day’s forecast.

Paul, Andrew, John Grav and Chris, Aled and Alan W and Chris and Sharon arrived at various times during the morning, but reluctantly they all returned home without even getting their hands dirty!

Gordon and Alan T spent the morning at the Buried Lock site where plant and equipment was being delivered. John D joined us for a planning meeting with our contractor. It’s hoped that work will begin later this week on the development of the area, excavating part of the old council yard to create a new section of canal, a boat basin and, in later phases, exposing the old lock chamber and refurbishing it to connect the two existing stretches of canal, above and below the site. It’s a scheme that’s been years in the planning, finally coming together!

Little was achieved in practical terms on the day, but site preparation for the exciting new construction work was a milestone that we have long been waiting for. We’re hoping the winter weather will be kind to us as the project is taken forwards over the next few months.

Just one photo this month, taken by Paul and showing soggy volunteers admiring heavy plant.
