Work Party: Tuesday 14th January 2025

Today was cold and drizzly but our vols were soon busy clearing the cut between the bridges in Pontardawe. Paul was keen to lead the team!

The first obstruction was a large tree straddling the entire width of the canal. “Two saws” Gordon sailed forth in “Nellie” to cut the trunk into manageable pieces that the rest of the team hauled across and stashed away. One final trunk and the job was done.

The second obstruction was a collection of large branches overhanging the canal. Once again, Gordon was in “Nellie” but this time Andrew and Rowan joined in with hand saws on the off-bank.

After a major table malfunction, tea was taken in the shelter of the tunnel. Chris supplied delicious snacks, both sweet and savoury.

We were pleased to have cleared so much today but there is yet more to do on this short stretch of canal. Storm Darragh caused a vast amount of damage.
