Work Party: Tuesday 14th July 2026

Our volunteers split again this week across two locations, the Buried Lock and the Pont John area in Hebron Road. The larger group focussed on clearing the overgrown section of canal and towpath between Pont John and the Clydach aqueduct, both on the bank and in the water. Phil scythed down the longer grass and weeds and Gordon strimed the area above and below the aqueduct. Aled forked the waste into a barrow, the rest of the team cleared other sections and sorted out the cleaning up and disposal. Phil raked out weeds he could reach from the bank and John G. paddled out in his kayak to pull larger reeds from deeper water. Its a dirty and tiring task but the improvements were very noticeable! |

And it was a date for the diary at the Buried Lock site! Facing the by-wash channel with stone is a task we’ve been tackling on and off for almost three years, but today James, Lance and Alan completed the job! The final block laid is large enough for a commemorative inscription to mark the achievement! |

We appreciated our ‘hydration break’ in the shade of the Canal Centre trees, with rolls, sandwiches and cake courtesy of Moira. |

The increasingly hot sun brought another early finish, so not too much more was done after coffee, but we were pleased with what we had achieved on another very warm Tuesday. |
