Work Party: Tuesday 14th November 2023

Two work parties today. At one – continuing tree clearance at Riverside – the volunteers suffered a few sharp showers. At the other – path clearance in Coed Gwilym park – the volunteers were soaked by an almost constant downpour!

The tree clearance followed its usual form, with Gordon in “Nellie” and the rest of us clearing the brash as he felled it. The outcome was a wonderfully clear stretch of canal.

Duncan and Alan W spent some time clearing bramble around the sculptures near Bridge 7.

Tea and coffee at Riverside was accompanied by delicious cakes baked by Margaret.

The Coed Gwilym gang sensibly retreated to the dry in the Community Pavilion!

The photos in Coed Gwilym Park show a) Synchronised sweeping from Ronnie and Moira as they prep’d the circular route for Saturday Evening’s Lantern Procession from the Canoe Store to the Tree Sculptures, b) An almost leaf free towpath produced by Rowan and Carly, c) Martin in autumnal colours looking glum with his broom in the persistent rain and d) A job well done.

A rather wet day – again – but the vols persevered and completed two important tasks. Let’s hope for better weather on Saturday evening for the “Lighting Up The Canal” procession.
