Work Party: Tuesday 17th October 2023
Today was dry and pleasantly mild. The volunteers continued with the tasks commenced last week in and around the Buried Lock site. |
Firstly, Martin and Sharon were interviewed on film by Lizzie Houghton for “That’s TV Swansea”. If you missed her broadcast piece you can see the interviews here and here on X. |
The building work was lead as usual by Andrew and his trusty mixer. Alan T did more work on the pillar and Gordon laid concrete bags to redirect the flow towards the new boat basin. |
Martin was joined in the garden by Rowan and his mother, Carly. For Rowan this was a return visit as he was here two weeks ago with his father, Dan. Ryan was more than happy to take this lovely shot of Carly with Martin before all the three of them planted some Libertia Gigantia. They will grow to three feet high and have lovely orchid like flowers in May June and July. They also have the great advantage of being evergreen and hiding a breeze block wall! It’s a non invasive plant and hardy. Thanks to a friend of John Grav for generously donating them. |
Downstream, last week’s weed was taken back to the compost heap – both motorised barrows were hard at work! As the weed was cleared, the towpath was cleaned. Gareth and John Grav pulled fresh weed, just so the team had something to do next week. |
Time for tea and a chat, with delicious scones and cakes baked by Chris. |
Well done everyone. Lots achieved under pleasant conditions. A pleasure to be out and about. |
