Work Party: Tuesday 18th June 2024

Another lovely, sunny day and the ducks were out in force to welcome us to the Pontardawe terminus of the canal, before it disappears into the pipe to Trebanos.

Chris M, Sharon, Alan T, Alan W, Ronnie, Chris G, Martin & Mike F continued to rub down the railings and paint them. A bit more to do but the finished segments look fantastic. And will Martin ever be let out of jail?

On the other side of the railings, Aled, Duncan, Phil, Gareth & Andy cut back and pulled out weed and various items of rubbish including a complete “Men At Work” sign.

A short distance upstream, Gordon cleared away vegetation to reveal the perilous state of the wall. Something needs to be done very soon before more of the capping stones tumble into the canal.

Tea was taken with delicious cakes baked by Chris G. It must have been “Bring Your Kid To Work” day, as Bob’s son joined us for a chat.

After tea, work continued on the railings and weed. Chris G & Dave cleared the edge of the footpath.

The litter-picking dynamic duo of Mike C & Sue were on parade as usual. What a marvellous job they do.

Excellent weather, excellent turnout of volunteers and excellent outcomes. Another glorious day on the canal.
