Work Party: Tuesday 20th August 2024
A bright and cheerful morning saw a bright and cheerful group of volunteers set off from Coed Gwilym park to clear the towpath between the Buried and Mond locks. This was to showcase our activities to the great and the good of Swansea Council that have been so generous in their support of the Society with several, very substantial grants over recent years. |
Chris M, John G, Phil, Duncan and Lance cleaned the edges of the towpath, reclaiming at least a foot of width in the process. |
Chris G, Ronnie, Jan, Sue, Andy and Moira (until she was called away on grandparenting duties) cut back overhanging vegetation. |
The combined efforts of both teams, before and after tea, really made a great improvement to the walk between the locks. |
Elsewhere, Bob continued to titivate our large boat that currently resides behind the canoe store. It is gleaming! |
Dave found brash to cut back alongside the Buried Lock. |
Tea was taken back in Coed Gwilym park. Andy was the baker this week and his cheese scone was particularly welcomed. Our guests from Swansea Council passed by. |
That’s it folks! A fairly gentle day’s work but the towpath is much improved. And finally, a couple of shots of the Buried Lock that is really taking shape. It won’t be long before the lock is fully restored and working. |
