Work Party: Tuesday 21st April 2026

Today saw our volunteers having more fun in the sun at the Hebron Road Canal Centre.

Moira, Christina and Diane tended the borders again, both behind the building and alongside the road – more weeds out and more plants in! All the gardens are looking splendid in the Spring sunshine!

John Gw installed a handy indoor tap to the existing water main in the workshop.

Sharon and Pete assembled eight new chairs for the meeting room.

James, John Gr, Ian and Phil set out a path between the two concrete slabs laid last week, and edged it with timber formwork using pegs which Gary and Phil had hewn from timber offcuts.

With a weed membrane down, the team barrowed over a tonne of Cotswold chippings from the car park and Gary tipped them into place. A bit of raking and levelling achieved a great result!

Alan, James and Pete installed 15m of safety railings along the back of the boat basin. Gordon cut all the tubes and the job was finished before lunchtime.

Moira spoilt us at coffee break with a wide choice of sandwiches, rolls and cakes, and David Morgan from Glandŵr Cymru called in for a chat.

The Old School Nursery garden centre delivered a bulk load of landscape bark – thank you Lee! As the final job of the morning, Phil and Kev laid more membrane and spread the bark as a weed suppressant around the first slab.

Great teamwork brought great results today, and we should get the new seating area completed next time.
