Today’s work party was another story of two halves. At the Clydach lock there was a familiar scene – Lance on the mixer! Plenty of mortar was needed as Alan and James continued facing the channel central wall in stone, but this time they had Aled helpfully backfilling with mortar and rubble.

Gordon used a bit of the muck too later in the morning, sealing around the top of the upper channel flushing pipe. Kevin kept up the supply of suitable stone and barrowed mortar for them all.

Gordon, Phil and David cleared some of the obstructive weed between the Mond and Clydach locks, hard going as it was densely packed, and Gary and Diane did the same above the Clydach lock. Their efforts made a marked improvement after several hours.

Meanwhile at Hebron Road, Christina, Sharon, Jan, John Gr and Chris gutted the car park end border of tired plants, weeds and buddleia and replanted with fresh shrubs and saplings. John and Sharon stained the newly-exposed fence, and the transformation was impressive!

Moira was absent, but on catering duty and left us a lovely selection of sandwiches, rolls and cakes.

It was more of the same for an hour after coffee break. The weather stayed warm and dry so these several worthwhile jobs could be ticked off.
