Work Party Tuesday 23rd April 2019

This week the volunteer team headed down to Lock No.7 ‘The Hidden Lock’ in Clydach to continue cleaning the site.

Volunteer Gordon got to work with his chainsaw and carefully cut up an old telegraph pole to create a border for a semi-permanent rockery. Young volunteers Rhys and Isaac brought along their own ‘heavy plant’ to shift loads of soil and leaf mould from the far end of the site. It is always good to see younger volunteers really enjoying themselves as they work.

Martin was kept busy with the building of the rockery and planting of wild plants. Although this garden may eventually be moved elsewhere it is useful to have a nursery to nurture any plants for future re-planting.

Andy and John carried out further repairs to the boat trailer and fitted new mudguards.

We had a visit by Peter and Margaret who came down from Lancashire. They came to look at what we are doing. In September they will bring a group from the Watford History Society. The group will visit the Hafod Copper Works site and walk along the Swansea Canal.

Ronnie, Mike and Paul were busy down in Coed Gwilym Park hiring out canoes and kayaks. This will now take place every Sunday until September, and Tuesdays during the school holidays.

This was another very productive work party with a great deal of spring cleaning being carried out. A host of ‘little jobs’ were dealt with by the busy band of volunteers. Thanks everyone.
