Work Party: Tuesday 24th February 2026

Another warm and dry day saw the volunteers busy at two locations. Firstly, in Coed Gwilym Park, Gordon lead a team clearing the accumulated junk behind the canoe store. All the wood was cut into manageable chunks and then everything was taken to the skip at the Hidden Lock site. In addition, Sharon and James concreted in place the safety railings at the golf course sluice.

Meanwhile, at the Canal Centre, all the stones and waste lumber were moved from the stone barge and piled up tidily before the barge was given a good weeding. It looks so much better now.

Diane weeded Martin’s favourite garden.

Gary and Sue weeded alongside the boundary wall.

John Gw inserted a ventilation grid into the box trailer. His labours were particularly arduous as he had the trek back home to collect his pop riveter that the had forgotten first time round!

Tea was taken in the sunshine, accompanied by Jan W’s fantastic cakes. We took the chance to sing “Happy Birthday” to Sue.

The low-level path was completely cleared of remaining debris, more detritus was pulled from the cut, good stone was added to the pile, bricks were thrown into the gabions and the flower bed above the path was weeded.

Alan replaced a coping stone on the boundary wall.

The workshop was tidied up once again. How long will it remain tidy?

The volunteers worked really hard today but it was a pleasure to be so busy in the lovely sunshine.
