Work Party: Tuesday 26th August 2025

Very hard rain fell in Clydach first thing this morning so the volunteers met at the Swansea Canal Centre with some trepidation but the rain held off right through to packing up time. The first, and best, task for the day was to welcome a new volunteer Lynne Holmes. She got stuck in straight away, as can be seen in the photos.

Martin remained at the centre, tending to his lovely garden. He even gave the fennel a trim!

The gentlemen volunteers carried on with clearing irises from the canal. The first task was to take last week’s debris from the towpath to a compost pile. Andy and Phil dealt with the piles on the opposite bank.

John Gr hopped into his kayak to pull more of the pesky irises, that the chaps then hauled to the bank.

The lady volunteers cleared the accumulated weed and debris from the wall adjoining the Mond works. Chris M followed on with a brush cutter along the canal edge. The “before” and “after” photos show a job well done.

Tea was taken in the warm sun with three tasty cakes baked by Margaret.

Sue joined us for tea with apprentice cleansing operative “Roxi”, her four month old puppy. The youngster passed her first test with flying colours.

All through the morning, Alan and Jon Gw worked hard to clear the workshop for the Waterway Recovery Group that will be with us next week. All in all, another productive morning, luckily without rain.
