Work Party: Tuesday 27th August 2024
Lovely working weather today – warm and dry – for the volunteers as they met at Bridge 8 to continue the work of previous weeks. Dave and Martin started the day by trimming vegetation and bashing the last bit of balsam. |
Martin then moved on to join Aled, Sharon, Chris and Gordon on Bridge 8 as they continued to use lime mortar to point up the gaps between the stones. What has happened in the second photo? Has Sharon drawn herself up to her full height or has Gordon finally worn his little legs down to their stumps or both? |
Repairing wash holes also continued. Lance, Rowan and Phil mixed the mix and filled the bags. John and Phil trundled them along the towpath where Alan and Mike, assisted by Duncan, laid them in place. |
Tea was taken with very tasty cakes baked by Margaret. Anna and Cerys enjoyed the break, as usual. |
After tea, work continued on the bridge and the wash holes, until the grit was all used. Andy, Sue and Dave tackled overhanging branches that were threatening to obstruct the towpath. No action shots, but the before and after views indicate a job well done. |
Another good day’s work in very pleasant conditions. Sometimes it’s simply a joy to be out and about on the canal. |
